Hello everyone! Today’s blog post is going to be a fashion design Q and A! I recently went onto my instagram stories and asked you guys to ask me some questions about my fashion design journey. You guys certainly smashed it, so lets get onto the questions!
What first got you into fashion design?
When I was around 5, my parents used to buy me Top Model drawing books. My love for drawing clothes really stemmed from that. However, as a child my Mum used to love dressing me in a not-so typical fashion and so I really learnt the art of expressing through clothes in that way. In the end it all came together and that’s how I knew fashion design was the thing for me!
What is something you really want to make in the future?
Oooh this is a hard one! I think for me, I want to make something really different. I can’t say what because I really don’t know. I want to have an idea that is completely new and different – I haven’t got that idea yet. However, I have an idea of a completely sheer skit in my mind at the moment!
What’s your favourite part of making clothes?
For me, the actual sewing of the pieces is my favourite thing! I love the satisfaction of when a piece fits and it just makes me so happy. I am always trying to improve my sewing skills so I find it nice to be able to have practice in that!
What’s the most important thing you’ve learnt from fashion design?
This is so tricky! I think though, that it’s actually the message that you can never be ‘too’ out there. Be yourself, full and bright and you’ll make the people around you shine. Fashion design has taught me so much about what ‘beauty’ actually is and how clothes can completely change a persons perspective on life!
What keeps you going when things get tough?
This is a funny one actually, I think it’s something people will laugh at actually. When it comes to sewing, if things get tough, I look up at the picture of Central Saint Martins on my pinboard and that keeps me going. If you didn’t know, Central Saint Martins is one of the most prestigous fashion universties in the world and I’ve wanted to go there since I was 5. So that picture, just reminds me of what I’m working towards and keeps me going.
Thank you guys so much for asking these questions! It was super fun to answer them and hopefully we can do this in the future again.
Logging off, Millie xx
